Pics from my day trip today
Here are some pics I took from a nearby waterfall today. I'm not too happy with the pics of the waterfalls...I was trying to slow down the motion but the slowest shutter speed I could get was 1/10. My framing also really sucks.

These are great photos lollipop! Nice and crisply, creamy backgrounds, well done and I think you've done a great job on framing, especially with the flowers. You can get a neutral density filter that will give you an extra stop in the day time, very handy for waterfalls. Although in bright sunlight even then it can be a challenge. Here are a couple I have managed to get in the day time using a filter.

Thanks guys!!! I posted them at a photography board and I only got one reply and it was "they're ok"...lol
Though seeing Eric's pictures puts mine to shame! Those are absolutely gorgeous!! Where were those taken?I really have no concept of framing, except what I think looks good. I get criticized for it. I was told "learn the rules before breaking them" but I don't know the rules!! Also, I wasn't using ANY filter. Not even a UV (which I normally have on)...that's b/c I was just testing the lens and didn't want to purchase it. What kind of filters do you think I should have for my collection?
Any of you have any opinions on buying a Phottix battery as a spare instead of the Nikon one? Quote:
Thank for the great feedback!! |

Have you looked into the rule of thirds yet? That will give you a bit of perspective on some different techniques for composition, google it and you will come up with a world of different ideas.
![]() On nearly all of my shots with the exception of moving objects I use a tripod and a shutter release, this will greatly reduce the amount of camera shake. The tiniest amount does make a difference. On a waterfall it's a must, not sure if you used one or not but wanted to point that out. I have also been able to get a little bit more time on an exposure using a simple polarizer as well, that's a good idea. Also, post processing is key. Your typical SLR is not designed to give you a lot of pop out of the camera, it's meant to give you a high quality raw image and you can do wonders with them when it's not all processed by the camera, allowing you to make the changes you like. Shooting in RAW mode gives you tons more data in the photo, then it's just a matter of making a few tweaks in Photoshop. There are lots of great tutorials on this stuff out there too. |
