They are much more than a flute, Classification is meaningless, we all look at things differently
( like my referall to Wings).
Have you listened to some of the faster songs?
the one's i posted earlier?

also - could it be that "being forced" to play them, soured you on the band?
anyway, this is art/music and everyone looks at things differently
-so I repect your views.

Obviously more than just a flute I didn't say that was the only instrument but keyboard and flute are the leading two of that band. Opinions are like a-holes; we all have one. I don't think I would say that being forced soured me since I was forced to do the same with Hendrix, Wings, Beatles, Simone and Garfunkle, etc...

I don't care for S & G much, nor a lot of what I had to learn but I love most of the music I was taught on. I really can't stand Neil Diamonds music but could play you everything he ever did (from his heyday anyway). That doesn't minimize my appreciation at all and this holds true with Moody as well as some other cheesy pop.

AND YES I do have my cheese musical guilty pleasures but at least I admit they are cheese...

Smiths
Cure
Cabaret Voltaire

... to name a few.

well "cheese " that's a new one. not sure if it has any artistic meaning, but so be it.

The band is deep, some of the songs are absolute masterpieces, in the lyrics and the melodies. so I'm just gonna leave it at the - OK?
as we just have to agree to disagree.

The same could have been said about Jethro Tull with Ian Anderson and his flute, lol. (HELL of a show though, seriously.)

Ok, as long as we're discussing bands of my era...

The ones that really "rocked" were the Stones, Floyd, and Zeppelin.

Have you listened to any of their stuff, Sean? My very first album was Days of Future Passed, They are not Heavy Metal, but there are some cooking tunes, "Ride My See Saw", don't listen to the overall melody, dig down in there and find that bass line, that guitar just under the skin.

Biggest regret of my life, I have never seen Tull in concert.

I had tickets for Zeppelin the week Plant's son died. They never toured again.

The Stones kick ass!

I saw Tull three times. It was what they did *in between* songs that made the concert. A guy in full scuba gear flip flops onto the stage to answer a ringing phone...he asks over the mic: "Is there a Lloyd Bridges in the audience?" Then the band launched into Aqualung. The entire concert was done in this fashion. It was hilarious!

Since we're on the topic of music here I just got done watching a live Bee Gee's special on DVD and all I can say is they made 5 decades worth of fantastic music, it's really too bad about Maurice because together they really had a magical sound. Still, we have a lot of great memories from them.

My era too - saw just about everybody. But i was wasted a lot so it's kinna hazy.
I do remember Tull opened up with Bouree I think it was called.
Spotlight on Ian's flameing red hair, as he pranced around.

I saw Zeppelin 5 times I think - always had the crowd going out of their mind.
Them boys was tight. the movie Song Remains the Same does not do them justice.
Of course Gonzo was so impressive with his huge gong, and played Moby Dick with his hands.

I saw Pink Floyd between Meddle and Dark Side it was outdoors at Merriweather Post in Columbia Maryland.
They had quad speaker stands.
I was tripping on phamaceutical acid (Sandoz)
and it was just indescribable. I wandered around all night long afterwards looking at the place, and watched the roadies pack up, my friends leave.

Finally a bunch of freaks picked my up and we partied.
That was a heavy duty trip - literally
