How to prevent automatic emails
This board is setup to automatically send emails upon replies to your posts. To change this go to the User CP link (top left on menu) Edit Options and look for Default Thread Subscription Mode.

Since a number of people have been having problems with this, I decided to throw together a little tutorial to show them with screen captures the settings they need to change to make sure they stop getting e-mails from subscribed threads.
Step 1: Change default thread subscription mode The first thing you need to do is change you Default Thread Subscription Mode, as Eric described in the first post. This setting can be found in your UserCP, here: http://www.politicalgroove.com/profi...do=editoptions Scroll down to the "Messaging & Notification" section and find "Default Thread Subscription Mode" and select "No email notification" from the drop down box, as shown in the picture below: ![]() You may alternately chose the "Do not subscribe" option. That makes it so that replying to threads does not automatically add them to your list of subscriptions. After you change this setting, make sure you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen and press the "Save Changes" button. The effect of changing this setting is that any new threads you subscribe to will be set to the "No Email" option. However, this does not change the email option on threads you subscribed to before changing the above setting. Step 2: Change notification type for existing subscriptions To stop receiving email from your currently subscribed threads, you must change the notification setting for each of them. Bring up your subscribed threads list in your UserCP, found here: http://www.politicalgroove.com/subsc...ewsubscription You will see a list of all your subscribed threads, and if you've been using the default setting and replied to a lot of threads, you may have a lot of them, and they will probably all be set to "Instant" notification. What you want to do is place a check mark next to each thread listed on the page. The easiest way to do that is to check the checkbox at the very top of the list, as indicated in the picture below: ![]() Checking the top box automatically checks them all. Once all the "Instant" notification threads are selected (checked), scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list and find the drop down box labelled "Selected Threads:", as seen below. From the drop down box, choose "No email notification" as shown in the picture. ![]() Alternately, you can choose "Delete Subscription" if you don't want to be subscribed to these threads. After you make your selection from the drop down box, make sure to press the "Go" button: ![]() This should change all the selected threads to "None" for the notification type, which means no more emails from those threads. Also note that if you have more than one page worth of subscriptions, as you can see I do, you will need to repeat this process for each page worth of subscriptions, until all of your subscriptions are set to "None" for the notification type. I hope these pictures will help clear up any confusion people have been having. |

Thanks Kana. I was having the same problem with the ones that were still coming and this is what I needed to fix it. Many thanks and heartfelt lust.

Yeah, you can still receive updates from the admin but that is an option you can turn off. However, it's very rare that you see them coming from me on any of my sites. In all the years I have ran boards I can count on one hand how many emailers that I've sent out. Personally, I can't stand them and see it as spam.
