Again, humans are left out of the problem. You didn't even attempt to explain what happens to them either but continued to go on your tirade about how the apes have ruined the environment and are just all going to die. I agreed with you on several counts, but not on leaving humans out of the problem.

Now I might not understand everything about biology but it seems clear to me that we still need to keep control of the predetors or all hell breaks loose. The bets are off in other words.

Our ancient ancestors had to hunt. They had to defend themselves from being hunted. There are just some animals that you don't want to fuck with. You seem to be proposing that we use only them to cull the population of other species and that this, itself, will solve all our ills. However, and I could be incredibly wrong here, it seems to me that history has shown that there's nothing that special about introducing a species into an environment where it's supposed to solve some overpopulation problem in another. It seems to me, and again I'm probably very wrong, that historical experience tells us that this is a major mistake that results in an over population of the predator species that then becomes an even worse problem!

Now, that is what I'm basing my reason on...you couldn't, or refused to explain how introduction of preditors solves the problem. The only thing you've done to date is attack my ignorance, without real explanation. WHY do you think using one species to cull another will solve our problems? WHAT do you think is going to keep the predetors in check? How do you propose to cause a ballance that allows humans and animal alike to coexist while apparently totally removing the input of humans from the equation. It seems to me, and I'm probably totally ignorant here, that when you remove one species from the problem when deciding how to solve it...the answer is not going to account for this species and thus that species may not remain when the plan sees fruition.

But shit, I'm just ignorant. When asking for your explanation, what YOU thought tossing a bunch of eaters into a population where they have food in abundance will do, I was just showing my complete lack of understanding in biology and the economics of natural order.

So I guess you're correct. I'm a dumbass. That's why I can't be convinced on your say so.

Actually no, because he seemed to not grasp why reintroducing natural predators was the way to go. And, yes, there are parts of the U.S. where people have left completely or were never living at to begin with, and should be set aside for restoration/recovery. That's what I posted the first time, and kept reitterating when he tried to misread my posts.

If people worry about an "over"population of deer [nevermind that they lived in far higher numbers in past centuries], then yes. Simply loosing a few thousand hunters in one part of the year won't do it, especially when human hunters target the most fit of the population rather than those for which predation becomes a mercy stroke.
