What could be more evil than to exploit and manipulate God's guidance? In fact, that is precisely what the devil would do.

Not true. religion is the savior of man and generated by God. Man is the recipient of religion not the creator of it.

Empirical feedback by the body is not guidance of God. Pain is but a sensation. Man's insance quest to exert authority over other men is a Satanic quest. For man should love his brother as his brother, not dominate his brother.

Well your notion of guidance is misguided. God is sovereign and immutable. Man is the creation and servant of God. Even the body should be used in the service of God. The mind too.

We've all sinned. But if we stop sinning today, in time, the forest will re-grow.

Not sinning and yet having free will requires the disciplined person. Disciplined angels too. The infinite one is worthy. And knows what she is doing.

Did you see "The Golden Compass"? I read the books. They were pretty good actually. Perhaps not the best Sci-Fi I've ever read, but not bad. And you do have to remember they were written for children. Better than Harry Potter I thought.

I bring it up because it definitely explores the "do the right thing when everyone else is against" you plot. Not sinning, and the infinite are not necessarily in line with the Church in this story.

It bombed at the box office and Nicole Kidman desperately needs a hit movie. Cost $150 million to make and has done about $50 million. So the sci fi might be okay but the business is horrible. And I am fascinated by the business side as well ast the artistic side. Good and evil are themes in most movies. Nothing unique there.

It is unique in being "anti religious". I think it would have made money except for the boycott. It will be interesting to see if it can overcome the predjudices that are stopping people from seeing it now. Maybe it will do well in DVD, when people won't have to worry about their congregation seeing them.

Well DVD usually matches the box office so that would put it at about $100 million still $50 million short of its budget. Whereas "The Passio of the Christ" did about $500 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.
