I said that I am unpersuaded of a thing, in this case that Spock is envious. That I am unpersuaded of one thing does not connote belief in another thing. What, then, is the belief that you doubt?

For one person to doubt that another person is unpersuaded, if the other person declares himself to be unpersuaded is, in a word, ridiculous.
So you are unpersuaded that Spock is envious of Eman due to Eman's efficient and effective use of logic? That was the original postulation.

And then Eman applied the 'doubt that one can deny that one is doubting' paradigm to refute your contention that you doubted Spock's jealousy. I believe your postulation to be correct. The fact that Eman doubted that you could not doubt that you can doubt has nothing to do with your being unpersuaded about the Spock speculation. Moreover, linguistically speaking, doubt and being unpersuaded, though similar, have their own nuances that could lead to different conclusions. Good job sir. Yet Eman believes he could assuage your doubt and persuade you to support his postulation.

Well you DO sit in the cheapseats so viewing Eman's performance is probably not quite as understandable by you.

There is some question, however, as to whether yours is a postulation worth either of our time.

My "instincts," born of environment and experience, brought Benjamin Spock to mind...he of the merging of pediatric medicine with psychoanalysis, the blending of science and logic, yes? He also being dead these several years, his state or non-state of envy seemed particularly unprovable and irrelevant.

It only occurred to me in your last post that you meant MISTER Spock, with whom I am not sufficiently well acquainted...though well enough, certainly, to pick him out in a crowd...to be persuaded of any of his mental states, save he reported them to me himself.

Now, the topic of Envy itself...a mere hop, skip, and jump from threat...sidled right up to insecurity...manifesting as You Name It...THAT could be a rich and rewarding discussion.

It would also be interesting, if your allusion was indeed to Mister Spock, if you would articulate the themes and morals, or the lack thereof, in lay terms.

There's a line, is there not, about seeing a man about a horse? Today, I am seeing some drivers about a candidate, but hope to resume this later.

Though a new year is nigh upon us, there is yet time for some good to come of this one. Literally, not a moment too soon.

On the contrary, the cheap seats are up high...better view of the full court, the whole field, the Big Picture.

Moreover...your 'good job, sir' was based on my having a BETTER understanding of a point than you, rendering this jab meaningless as well as mean-spirited.

You would have done better to exercise patience...specifically, to see whether I had finished 'speaking.' The patience, I expect, would have paid off in restraint.

No matter, we can begin afresh if you like.

I have not the time, nor you the skill, to trade insults.

Well whereas I am given to giving the most valuable of my possessions, it is your decision as to how you will utilize your time.

Benjamin Spock was not the target of my postulation, but your instincts about him could have implications about the subject at hand: that is that the capacity for science and logic are wired into the brain very early in life. And of course, seeing that the source you had in mind is nonexistent, then, clearly envy would be an irrelevant subject, as would any subject until he is resurrected from his dead state.

Mister Spock of Star Trek fame is the target of my postulation. And if you would indulge me the acceptance of his character then you would probably be correct that Mister Spock would not be jealous of my logic because he had no emotions. Thus, no capability to be jealous of me in any way at all. Right again Mister Cheapseats. I must give props to your powers of observation: and this when you deferred your final judgment pending a possible consultation with Leonard Nimoy (who by the way is still alive).

Well the manifestation of envy here is that many of the inhabitants of this board threaten me with expressions of their jealousy. It is manifested in constant critiques of me, whereas I do not research them to criticize them. Eman's every word is analyzed to find fault. I could go on with examples but you get the idea. Clearly my training tells me envy is the culprit. And the insecurity of my opposers leads to, as you say: "You Name It." So yes, Eman believes the green eyed monster springs from the perversion of God's legitimate emotion of jealousy. And it is twisted to the purposes of the Father of the Lie.

I was being facetious about Mr. Spock being jealous of my powers of logic to goose the envious here. So though you were technically right about Spock not being jealous of me, you were wrong to the extent that it was a tool utilized by me to mock the envy and jealousy expressed here as a function of a quality of the Father of Death. As you stated and I agree, "Envy itself...a mere hop, skip, and jump from threat." So my use of logic threatens them and thus leads them to threaten me by threatening my credibility.

2008 will place a man upon a horse to show the way for our country's path in 2009 and beyond. It will be Edwards or McCain with Obama or Huckabee as Veep.

Well poking fun at your funny name should have been funny to you. If you were somehow insulted by my attempt at humor then I apologize. But it still seems funny to me. Maybe you simply do not get my comedy. Maybe you are too sensitve. Regardless, it is you and you have every right as an American and child of God to your right and feelings.

I don't think Jefferson said that, though it does sound like him.

I believe it was Denis Diderot: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/au...s_diderot.html
