About fifteen years ago I watched a play about a 19th century man who dies and petitions god to be allowed to see his daughter growing up in his absence. When someone else shows up he complains, to which the guy answers, "Whatever did you do to warrent going to the head office? There's a beaurocracy up here too." Or something to that effect.

It's everywhere.

=The_Heretic;62230]The image of angels, that being a guy with wings, comes from the Greek, where pottery often had the soothsayer [the guy slicing open a chicken to read the entrails] with wings. Plus, there's likely some Egytpian incluence as well, since arcs [the stone tablet carrying variety] have theor origins in
Egypt and chimeric animals on the lid also had wings. Plus, the angels are clearly detatched from or above the Earth while fairies tend to be of/with it.
The Angels always confused me, and as a kid, I was frightened of them. I suppose I shouldn't lump all winged beings together huh? Yes the Faerie is OF the Earth, her Spirit. And they exist in all cultural lore in some form or other. Lots of things religious are "borrowed" from the Egyptians and Greeks, truly amazing the connections you find, when you take a really hard look.
You're right that leaving the feminine out of theology- or making it subordinate to the masculine, is an imbalance. In one of my novels the aliens have four sexes, and so see everything in tetrachotamies instead of dichotamies, affecting every aspect of their psychology, their creation myths and all else.
It just irks me, that in some ways (especially religious ones) women are deemed inferior and in some extreme fundie sects even sub-human. That just makes my head hot with anger. Sounds like an interesting read, your Novel!
I think most monotheists think that everyone who does not believe in the One True God, goes straight to hell. It's very ingrained in them. I personally don't see what difference it makes what you call your God(s) and how you honor them, as long as you're a good person, and try to live the best life you can, without destroying this earth in the process.

If you look at the Bible, a lot of women held the spirit and the power. Ruth, Bathsheba, the virgin Mary, Mary Magdelena, the virgin Mary's mother (who also gave birth to Mary through divine circumstances according to tradition), Sarah, Hagar, the Queen of Sheba. The list goes on. The "negative" view of women in power could be attributed to the early church's man centric ministries. Women were often thought of as second. Even though they are the "life givers", men wanted the power. They bypassed the strong willed women of the Bible and focused more on the positive aspects of the men and the negative aspects of the strong willed women. They called Mary Magdelena a whore. Even though there is nothing scripturally wise to make that assesment. Bible says she was possessed by demons, and somehow that got turned into she was a whore...Huh? It may be the verses saying she left home to follow Jesus. Back then if a women left her home to follow a man other than her husband, she was considered a whore. One would think the early church would cast aside that aspersion since the man she was following was Jesus, but I digress.

SO true about the OT Ladies. What happened? I have heard the Holy Mother (Mary) called "The Whore of Babylon". Some Fundies say such things. Holy Rollers, Babtists mostly, who don't seem to like her or hold her in any high regard. The Mother of their Saviour. I can only shake my head at such people. But then they also think Catholics are thisclose to being Devil worshipers anyway. I wish the Rapture would hurry up and happen already, come and beam all the Fundies up. Would the world be a better place? would there be peace and harmony? Or would we who are left look for Goats to marry?

Well now, it was me who digressed...
