There's a big difference. While the newborn cannot survive on its own, it is not completely dependent upon one specific person whose biological systems it hitched a ride on. Any competent adult or group of adults can care for the newborn. And none of these adults has to have their own well-being compromised for the sake of the newborn. By contrast, the unborn draws upon exactly one person for oxygen, for nutrients, for life itself. And that one person is placed at additional risk to life and health the entire time she provides for the unborn.

The alternative is to force these irresponsible women (and men) to either have those children or force them to give them up for adoption.

The latter is virtually impossible and would not be accepted. The former isn't a pleasant prospect either. And many of the people who argue against abortion rights wish to wash their hands of responsibility after the fetus is born.

What are you not in total agreement with when it comes to rape and health of the mother?

  • Did they now? The aluminum aircraft severed the steel support columns? And how do you know this? Did you have cameras recording that action? Of course not.
  • I have seen many aluminum aircraft versus steel support columns in aircraft hangars for something around 40 years now, and I have NEVER seen aluminum prevail over the steel.

you are right: the men are responsible too.

i have thought about my comment on rape and mother's health. i dont like abortion, but i could kinda see it being more justified here.

as someone who was raised in foster care, this topic is tough for me. i dont know if my biological mother knew about my disability beforehand; probably not. i am grateful that she recognized her inability to take care of me, since she was in university at the time.

i dont know about down there, but in Canada children are removed from the home if the parents cant or wont take care of them. i see no reason why the woman wouldnt think about giving the baby up for adoption

I don't disagree with what you see as being more justified. It is at the very least ignorant and reprehensible to use abortion as your form of birth control.

It must have been a difficult decision but you do have to respect what she did. The problem is though that you can't force that decision and many women don't make it.

Yes but you have to have a legitimate and documented case to take a child away from their parent(s). It's hard to make such a case when the baby is brand new even if the mother has serious problems such as drug addiction etc. So you are then playing roulette hoping to catch negligent parent(s) before they seriously harm the child.

I am sure many women in such positions do think about giving the baby up for adoption but also that it is not an easy thing for most of them to due, it goes against natural instincts.

I hate to sound insensitive, but we simply don't need all these babies. There are too many already. The world is not going to sustain this. Birth control people! I don't think we should be allowing crack whores' unwanted embryos to become babies either...

It's not insensitive. Just good common sense! There are WAY too many Humans on this Planet, more than the Earth is able to sustain, so yes, I'll join you in saying: "Birth Control, People!"

I'll go a step further and say, "Birth control in the municipal water supply." Everywhere. Mandatory birth control. At least until the population level is manageable. I'm not saying no new births, just suggesting a major slowdown in births that both individual parents and the planet itself are not prepared to handle.

Prospective parents would have be licensed (which would involve parenting training and psych profiling) and show a degree of financial responsibility before being given the antidote to birth control. Some may suggest that this is a profound curtailing of the rights of citizens, but aren't all freedom's curtailed when the irresponsible use of those rights impacts other citizens?

A parallel would be the privilege of driving; tests must be passed, proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance) must be provided, the privilege can be rescinded for irresponsible actions.

There! You said it all! And I absolutely agree. Plus, that would (hopefully) stop stupid people from multiplying. We got enough of them already!
