That's the entire point: she ISN'T raising money for them... she's raising it for themselves.

I mean, this would be like me asking for money to fund my big trip so i could 'spread the word about atheism'.

Yea she does want to get away.. But I think she also wants to make herself feel better about her self. Her faith (what little there is of it)...

$1,8000 would buy a lot of rice to feed those ppl........... Instead she is going to go there & be another mouth to feed.......... & one that wants more than a bowl of rice & some local mud pies............

I see it as being a bit perverse or one of those other words the English use to describe ppl that have some morbid fascination w/ watching/reading about other suffering or fucking up their lives so as to feel better about themselves....

Good news is the money is likely to go directly to the ppl of Haiti....... FOr food meds etc.............

bad news we will have to put up w/ her an extra couple weeks..........lol

She was disappointed & pissed off @ me when she saw I was happy she would not be going......... She said that it would not be safe there.......

My Mormon nephew has spent the last 18 months in Guatemala with 6 more to go. Not what I would do.

Love the 'clockwork orange' avatar... Now that's how to convert someone! But if I remember correctly, it didn't take, did it?

Valid point. I believe that's an actual cult tactic.

Hell, it's a valid mainstream religions tactic. Of course the only real difference between a mainstream religion and a cult is age.
