I have a coworker that has begged up $1,800 to go on a "mission" to Haiti.. IMO she is a nominal Christian @ best but none the less ppl have given her money to go....... She has zero skills & is not versed in the bible or much else..... & I do not say that to be mean but as a fact......'

I told her about the situation there.... THis was even before the food riots........ I pointed out how desperately poor they were & what is she going to do for them...... The glassy eyes blank look really said it all. She had no idea........

I asked her point blank wouldn't that $1,800 go to better use buying them some food. RIce, Beans..etc............. She shrugged & walked away & never mentioning it around me......... She is leaving mid May & is bragging about it........

Am I wrong here feeling she is just wasting these donations to get a vaction & make herself feel better "witnessing to the natives". SHe does not speak French or Creole so I am not even sure how she can rationalize that off.................

You are not wrong here. That money would be much better spent giving those people food than sending them somebody who could not communicate the bible to them even if she did know it well.

Suppose something traumatic happened in your life........ Like your handicap increased dramatically for some unknown reason or daddy cut off your happy hour tab & the club house............

Now I know the trauma this would bring to you but instead of sending you a couple thousand to cover your bar tab for the rest of the month I decide to fly down & give you some moral support instead.......

I could let you follow me around for a week or so & suck up some free martini's & maybe invite you along for some fishing & other activities @ my leisure.......... I am sure that being @ my beck & call & listening to me lecturing you like your father about money would be much more pertinent to your life then me just sending you the gawd damned couple thousand..............
