moral question: patening life- Is it moral or ethical???

If not why is it allowed??

From the cloning of animals which can be patented to seeds...

Ppl in India as an example now are forced to buy & use chemicals, fertilizers as well as seeds. Seeds that can not be replanted...... If they are they have an extremely high failure rate (intentionally breed into them) & to do so is paten infringement not simple theft of a handful of seeds.. The poor fools can be stopped & prosecuted just like they can here by the likes of Monsanto & others...

Animals is another issue......

& then there is us...............

I'm assuming you mean patenting life but I don't understand the relevance to the examples you gave...you seem to be all over the place. What are you trying to find out and in what context?

You do realize that corporations have been patenting life for years, such as that oil-eating microbe. Supreme Court gave it a green light, so everyone is SOL now.

If they're already engineering and then patenting microbial life, and that kind of protective patenting is allowed for higher lifeforms, then I can foresee a time in the future where clones will be slaves. For parts if not for labor, and you'll have to pay big because your clone isn't yours, it's ACME's.

Maybe they patent global warming proof plants, which leaves you monopolied to the Jolly Green Giant.

Is it really so surprising? People bring it on themselves. Look at everyone... these days, they come complete with a price tag, an expiration date and a friendly label.

Stock on a shelf mother-fuckers, caught in a rat-race.

No, i've never listened to Bob Marley.

There would enevitably be an issue of humane treatment of animals as well as, in the further future, an issue of sentient rights.

From what experience with our current government and citizen's treatment of foodstock and people do you glean this from?

When a people are pushed down they get pissed off. And this isn't limited to human beings. Orcas when confined in environs too small for them have acted out by "accidentally" killing handlers.

Why can't man be more like the animal?

As to man, and specifically the American variety, being excluded is old hat. We've done it for religious affiliations, political leanings, race, and economic position.

My reply was to the fact that inhumane treatment of bioengineered critters would be the norm IF you extrapolate from the treatment we currently use for our foodstocks and lab needs.

My wonderings were to what extent that ownership + need + easy/cheap access = slavery and worse if patents and clone technologies ever cross into the human being business.
