Belief in Christ as the Son of God is indigenous to particular religions. Declaring America to be a Christian nation would formally elevate some religions over others, which is patently unconstitutional.
Remember, "under God" was injected into the pledge in 1954, during the McCarthy era and red scare. It was no oversight that it wasn't in the original version.

Can we all agree, then, as we scramble for solutions and hopefully muddle our way onto a Changed track, that the United States of America is NOT a Christian nation?

One nation, under God as we each understand God...bearing in mind that God is a word, no more the entity than the word glass will hold water...can we live with that?

Back to Basics...Retro is Cool.

I don't think you will get the fundies to agree. They think it is their birth-right to proselytize the rest of us. Fortunately, we are a nation of Laws, and those laws clearly define us as a secular nation. Unfortunately there are those who would tear down our constitution and substitute it with their own dogmatic religion. I hope they don't let the door hit them in the ass on the way out of office.

'Fundies' is a Bert & Ernie-esque diminutive for Fundamentalist. Fundamentalism is Extremism. It is.

Within a complex, multi-faceted, integrated and interdependent but diversified and balkanized, globalized but multi-national, religious but commercial, democratic but authoritarian, fast-paced but bogged-down, highly technical but poorly educated world, Fundamentalism is Fanaticism.

Extremism is bad in governance. At the individual level, I have both experienced and born witness, repeatedly, to extremism wreaking havoc. That is each person's affair, within reasonable limits...drinking and driving, breaking and entering, et al.

Speaking of, reasonable limits do NOT include making it a crime for me to smoke pot outside my own state, when America...including MILLIONS of young 'uns...are guzzling alcohol like there's no tomorrow. And maybe there isn't, what with all the Fundamentally Fanatical Extremists playing biblical end-game on my time and my dime.

Obama and McCain wanna give more money to the churches? Then let us take the fight for reform TO the churches.

I have been back and forth across the country twice and up and down the state of California oftener than that in these past two years. You know the expression 'few and far between'? Literally, FEW AND FAR BETWEEN are the types that I have been listening to on Holy Roller Radio these past few weeks.

The GOP has launched a site for input on the 2008 Republican platform. Excellent. Good on them. There are the Usual Suspects...I cannot even begin to comprehend how tiny the mind of a person whose first thought, with All Hell breaking loose, is "No abortion, period!"

What I call the Gladys Kravitz syndrome.

They are the most easily ridiculed, the quickest to take offense, and the first to run back indoors. Not if they aren't confronted, however.

The Republican Old Guard needs to be put out to pasture.

But there are PLENTY of Republicans who know that. There are also posts being made to the effects of GET OUT OF THE BEDROOM, and GET OUT OF IRAQ AND 130 OTHER COUNTRIES, and GET OUT OF MY BUSINESS, and PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH, HYPOCRITES.

Begging your pardon, one has only to have noted the swift resort to censorship and segregation by the Left to know that gettin' Fired Up about havin' it all Your Way is a tendency that manifests wherever there is competition over limited goodies.

Look at Big Business run amok, wanting every crumb on the table...all their way.

Unfortunately, we are a nation of Too Many Laws, including illogical and unjust laws, which are prosecuted capriciously.

Fortunately, those who would NOT tear down our Constitution and substitute it with their own dogmatic religion are greater in number than those who WOULD subordinate principle to preference.

Obvious questions present themselves. Which group has the most power, read that position/money/arms? Which group has the most resolve?

You know how you can tell who's got the most resolve? Who's willing to die?

Ironically, terrorism doesn't die precisely because terrorists are willing to die.

This is bankable. The Powers Above The Powers That Be are SELDOM in the limelight, much less in public office. Transparency is not the watchword among World Domination sorts.

Based on ANYTHING that has transpired during the most extravagant presidential race in our nation's history, are you now possessed by a sense that, whew, FINALLY, we've got Big Money, Big Religion and Corrupt Officials on the run? Ridin' 'em out of Washington on a rail, are we?

Our Constitution, like our nation, is based on Christianity.

America is a nation "under God."

As long as we stay close to that America will prosper.

The more secularist seek to replace God with man (Satan), the worse things will get.
