Rx J0822-4300

Quote:
November 28, 2007: Astronomers using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory have discovered one of the fastest stars ever seen. It's a "cosmic cannonball" that is challenging theories to explain its blistering speed.

see captionThe name of the star is RX J0822-4300. It's a neutron star created by the Puppis A supernova explosion about 3700 years ago. Three Chandra observations clearly show the neutron star moving away from the center of the blast. Speed: 3 million mph! At this rate, RX J0822-4300 is destined to escape the Milky Way just millions of years from now.

Could this be a sign of a Type II civilization ?
Wonder if there are planet sized masses orbiting this thing ?

Data suggest the explosion was lop-sided, kicking the neutron star in one direction and the debris from the explosion in the other.
So a directed "Super Nova" blast - it would be a heck of a way to move a system.... cool.....

That's something I think is ignorant about labeling civilizations based on their energy use. It's like, "Well, you're more advanced because you waste more."

Not really, consumption is not necessarily waste, in our case the energy of choice is not environmentally friendly.

IF we make the leap into space and do not kill ourselves by throwing rocks down our gravity well, we will consume more energy. The sun wastes a lot, lot, lot of energy every second, just radiated into space.

Dyson spheres and Ring World are an example of a Type II civilization.

This is like neanderthals speculating how our civilization rates, "Well, they throw spears across continents so that's about a three on my finger scale."
