SUV extreme hybrid gets 150 mpg!

CNN just did a segment on a company called IFS TRINITY POWER CORP, that is taking an "extreme hybrid" electric/gas powered saturn SUV to the detroit car show that get 150 mpg - that they say can retail starting at $25,000.

if no one picks up the technology, they say they will produce it themselves.

just FURTHER proof that there's no fucking reason for american car companies NOT to convert to electric hybrids. but of course, we already KNEW that!

who killed the electric car?

sorry. no, unfortunately...

it was just a story on CNN - they took it out for a test drive. it was powerful. can't remember how fast it hit 80 mph, but it was impressive for an electric vehicle. goes 40 miles on electricity before you have to switch to gas and plugs in to a standard outlet. needs to be recharged nightly... but as they were saying, this would cover MOST of an average drivers daily needs on NO gas.

i tried to search the company - but came up with nothing on the net.

should turn some heads at the car show!

ohhh...I'm not sold cars you gotta plug in....It probably costs less to charge it nightly than to pay gas for that 40 miles...which would be what? About $6 bucks?

But I do not think it is any more environmentally sounds...since our electric companies use coal...

You know what just occurred to me? How is it they can say 150 mpg, when the thing obviously runs on electricity most of the time? That's pretty deceptive. They could run it exclusively on electricity and say it uses no gas.

There's a lot of wasted energy between the engine and the wheels. In the transfer between components like the drivetrain, for instance, lends to this problem. That's why running each wheel on its own motor is the better way to go.

good point, but i suppose they use average driving patterns to determine an average mgp.
in my case, it probably would run almost exclusively on electricity. i'd drive about 60 miles max a month on gas.
