monitor troubles

i need some help, all of a sudden my monitor just started blinking on and off, it does this every couple of minutes or so and is giving me a headache...checked all the connections, they are solid...checked the configuration, it's set for optimal usage...checked the device manager, it says the device is working properly ....tried turning it off and back on...turned off the computer and back on...tried unplugging it...tried changing the refresh...tried troubleshooting, it said it cannot determine anything is wrong....

should i just uninstall the damn thing and start over??

it's still in good shape, not too old, has never done anything like this before...then just out of the blue (and right in the middle of a game ) it started doing this...

any help, suggestions?

I used to have my sister's old computer. She bought a new one because she was having the same problem with her monitor. When I got it, it did the same thing, and it got worse and worse. So I got my old monitor out of the garage - problem solved.

I'm afraid you might have a bad monitor. Sorry.

I had a 19in widescreen (gateway) do this after only a couple of months. One morning, I went to turn it on, and nothing. Had to get a new one after much hassle and stress dealing with Gateway.

That seems to be the size of it. Maybe someone else will know something more positive. Is this the first time it's happened? My sister's old monitor would actually work fine for a day here and there, then it would get worse. Finally, it just wouldn't come back on for so long I got pissed and plugged in my old one, which was total crap, but at least it worked.

I doubt uninstalling it will do much. Monitors are not reliant on much software or hardware for how they malfunction. How they perform, yes, but when they start going funky it's probably the monitor itself. Borrow another monitor, any kind, even a shitty small one some one has hanging around. If it does the same things, it's something in your hardware/software. Easy trouble shoot that doesn't require being computer savvy.

Try fiddling around with the power cord and the patch cable, see if you can reproduce the same symptoms. If so it could be one of those things. Cables do go bad, power and patch cables.

I suspect it's the monitor itself though.

I just lost my 21" Sony after only 5 years (gaming puts a beating on them). Not too happy since it cost me a pretty penny when I got it. I knew I'd be replacing it right around now, but I thought it would make a great second monitor or at least a good hand-me-down to somebody in need of one.

Now I'm stuck with 19" rounded (not Flat CRT) CRT. Sucks.

I'm probably going to be picking up one of these in the next two weeks.

GateWay FHD2400

I've got Satellite in the "Den", and I'll just need to upgrade the box to an HD one.

It's either that or I'm going to get a 40-42 LCD TV that's good for gaming on a PC (not many that can do that). There's a Samsung and Sony that are viable options, but I don't think I want to do all my computer stuff on that big a screen.

I've got a couple of weeks to decide.

re- install the driver?

I had to do a complete system recover, and it was a pain, but was the only way i could update the driver.
