Cell phones and water compatibility question

I had my cell phone in my shirt pocket. I was about to soak my feet after a long hard day. I leaned over to take an offending sock fuzz off one of my toes. There went my cell phone into my nice warm sea salt foot bath.

I thought at first that my phone was okay. It didn't turn off immediately. Then it did. It wouldn't turn back on.

A couple of hours later I put in an alternate battery. It worked. It worked for awhile. Then I guess, that battery decided it didn't like water either?

It's off again. It won't turn back on.

Do I try one more battery? How long does a cell phone take to dry on the inside? Is there any forgiveness between cellphones and water?

Do I need to go shopping on ebay?

there is no forgiveness between water and a cell.
it will never work right again

yes...it is shopping time

(I carry insurance on my cellphone..it's worth it if you have one you spent some money for)

IMQ and I have recently learned that new cell phones come with a decal inside that turns color when it gets wet, to prevent people from trying to return phones that have water damage.

yep, theres a dot inside the battery compartment on many phones that will indicate water damage.

..and I'm afraid annhailla is right, no leeway. Its wet, its dead.

I had a razor in my front pocket last summer when my son squirted me with his water gun....it really seemed like not much water, but sure enough- next day - no phone.

I then went and told the salesman " give me the cheapest, ugliest phone you have."
its worked perfectly (better than the POS razor IMO).

Last year, I got a nice new Motorola something or other.

3 Days later, I forgot it was in the tool pocket on my insulated work pants. I put the pants in the washing machine, and about 1 minute later I realized my mistake.

I ran downstairs, and grabbed the soaking wet phone from the machine.

I opened it, and had a blank white illuminated screen. I left it on my pellet stove until the fog cleared out of the window. (2-3 hours)

To my surprise, the next morning I got it to come on after re-booting it. It worked for 2 months, and then quit rather abruptly.

I learned about the red dot thing when I went to try and give them a story at the phone store. I had seen the red, but didn't know it turns red when exposed to water.

I don't think it's the battery, so much as the electronics inside. Have fun shopping!

Cheap pre-paid phone, if lost or stolen all that is taken is a few hours, maybe some numbers, if broken, next phone no great loss.

Hate those services that tap into ones wallet or force one into contracts, agreements and dependancies....

The only prayer you would have had is if you had dried it IMMEDIATELY...like with a hair dryer....after that no hope....

On another note my Katana died recently...no water damage...I was using it one minute put it in my pocket and 5 min later it was no longer working. It was only a few months old and the jerks won't replace it...Maybe I'll have to be an asshole go and get insurance on it and return it a week later...

9 years in the inground pool biz and I can tell you that it might come back. Dry it as quickly as possible or let it sit for days near a heat source (dashboard with the heat on when I could bare it. worked once for me).

It's not over yet. But if it is dead, returning it or using insurance on it might be impossible .

NEXTELL even before the water damage indicators, could tell the way things "rusted" that the phone was submerged. Believe me I did try and return them. Once, and only once. When they shot us down, we just didn't try it again.

After that when one did take the plunge and didn't come back, I simply transferred the simcard into another phone and wrote down all the contacts (royal pain in the ass). Then told NEXTELL it was stolen or lost. It would be highly suspicious to claim a phone was stolen or lost but that the simcard wasn't in it at the time.

If it doesn't come back, don't take it anywhere, read your contract and insurance carefully , lost or stolen might be covered but not submerged.

We used to give em to the "kids" of employees to play with. Some of them still chirped and made noises too.

Found 4, one is my present phone. One has a sweet BodyGLOVE skin made of neoprene that cost nearly as much as the phone. But I've upgraded since then. Damn I forgot how much I liked that skin.
