In all factuality, all you need is a decent ping (easier said then done sometimes) and 256 up (as of now for a 64man BF2 server). There's always plenty of down with any highseed connection. But your able to reach out and have a better ping at many more servers with the FIOS.
I don't usually play on servers that are over 100ms to me, and at that point there's no difference between 9ms and 100ms. But, that rules out anything past Texas and the midwest. So it does limit my choices. You can play BF2 at much higher pings, if your not going toe to toe infantry. Once you lay a mine you could have a 300ping and it still explodes when some one runs over it. But I am toying with the idea of getting FIOS. I'm committed to some DirectTV HD hardware, so I can't get the Verizon bundle which is the better deal. Just how efficient of a server could run off a FIOS line like yours Gurn? I'd consider just the FIOS, and not the bundled TV/Phone package if I could run a BF2 server off it. I'd build a separate box for it, they can have minimal sound and video and all the money is in the CPU, HD and RAM. |

The reason I got the 15/15 ($69) as opposed to what I had before (15/2 which I got an employee discount, price of 5/2 $49) is simply because I am planning on running a couple of servers AND I gave access to a few friends for an FTP server I am setting up to dish out my 120GB of MP3's plus soon I will be putting all my video rips (SD and HD) to a server for them as well.
Oh, who am I kidding, I'm just a bandwidth slut! ![]() |

So say I was to get a FIOS line that could support a BF2 server, which one would it be (by speed) and what could it support for BF2 (how many slots/players)? If you need the specs for a BF2 server I can get them for you. |

Any FiOS line would work but, remember that due to current broadband plans, upload is your biggest bottleneck...which is why I got the 15/15 (maybe a 20/20 in your area). They're relatively inexpensive and most servers that run on T-1's can't touch it. You could even run the elusive 64 player server (if you have a server that can handle that kind of processor load). No need for specs, BF is my mainstay game(s).
