This Is Remarkable
This video of a scientist recalling scientific info during her stroke is the most remarkable story I've ever heard! Absolutely remarkable!!

Nice talk... but about choosing hemispheres, i wouldn't want to cut off oxygen to half the brain. Eight years to recover bites. That said, if we were all golden retrievers, world would indeed be a better place

Without re-reading the piece, I seem to remember she had an aneurysm that hadn't burst yet. I guess that's why she got so lucky. I'm thinking the 8 years was to regain total use of all faculties. When mom had her stroke, it was (however devastating to me) fascinating to see just how the stroke affected certain aspects of her thinking. She (her brain) totally discarded the entire concept of "left". I met a man in her rehab facility who couldn't understand why (as he had his stroke while driving) he made a right hand turn,(errantly) onto a one way street. He just kept saying to me..."I know that street, and I can't believe I made a right turn." That's because he too lost the concept of "Left". Amazing.

She showed photos of herself after surgery, of her with lots of stitches on the left side of her head. It was awful looking! It took her seven years to recover. |
