Global Warming - Fact or Fiction

How anyone could question this is beyond me, especially after watching An Inconvenient Truth. Not to mention all the science that has gone into it. There are a few that refute it, granted some of it is based on theory, however all one has to do is take a look at a few undeniable facts to see the changes.

What say you?

Global warming is a fact!! The only debatable issue around it is how much we contribute to it.

Unless you are a right wing nay sayer. Politics plays way to big of a role in this, they will say and do whatever they have to in order to prevent alternative fuels and to keep big business thriving, even at the expense of our own peril.

That pretty much sums it up. The right cares for nothing but filling pockets up with gold. Selfish short sited nonsense. Everything about the right is making lives easier for themselves at the expense of someone else.

This is another topic where we can't discuss it at my son-in-law's house. His mom asked me last time we were there, and I started to answer when he chimed in that it's a natural phenomenum so we shouldn't worry.

When I got home I sent her my DVD of inconvenient truth with a nice note that I'm saddened by our inability to discuss these things in a civil way.

I also noted that no one denies the ice caps are melting or some of the problems with will lead to. No one denies the temperature of the earth is rising, and doing so at a faster than ever rate.

The disbute, to the extent there is one, concerns itself with the extent to which man has caused the excelerated increase and what, if anything, man can do about it.

The tunnel vision of the right wing is blinding upon their intelligence. Any alternative fuel is going to be put in your car's tank at the local gas station.

Exxon et al doesn't care if you fill up with gas or peanut butter oil as long as they get their money from it.

There will NOT be a whole bunch of new facilities being built for you to put hydrogen or whatever in your tank. You will fill up at your gas station. As long as the price is competitive with gas and as long as the oil company gets a similar profit from the new fuel, why would anyone be unhappy?

I have no idea how much man contributes to GWarming.
I do know it's happening.

I also know ( see Thmas Freeman's columns ) that we could be a world leader in alternative fuels.
Which is a good thing, irregardless of GWarming

I understand there are scientists out there who refute it, and those who call Gore an opportunist who is bringing a new subject of fear to spoon-feed to the masses.

Having said that, I also know that the general weather patterns have changed drastically since I was a child; anyone who denies the violent weather patterns around the globe is living in a cave.

What to do? Alternative fuels is a start. Stop the drilling into the earth and the raping of the natural landscape, which serves as natures pallette when she decides to make changes to it - our development of lands that shouldn't be developed causes the terrible scenes we saw in Cali last week.

Will we change our ways? Not in the near future, I'm afraid. It's in our nature to be uncaring.

Now my favorate4 denial was of the claim that polar bears weren't really drowning. The bullshit argument went that polar bears could swim upto twenty miles. While this is true, they don't do it often and it's very taxing. also, what's occurring now is they now have to swim 65 miles or more. Plus, polar bears can't catch a damn thing in the water other than people, of course. Then there's the fact that they need enough ice that seals would need to use breathing holes, as the edge of the floating ice would be too far away to go for air. These holes are where polar bears catch their big ticket meals most of the time.

I thought the single most telling moment in Gore's film was the testimony when Gore was in the senate where he caught the opposing scientist lying.

If one can't make one's case with honest facts, one has no case.

I remember many years ago listening to Rush Limbaugh telling us that man is incapable of polluting our planet.

Having seen Rariton Bay and other waters go from swimmable to unswimmable in my lifetime, I knew that was wrong. As a boy, I went ice skating on our local ponds virtually all winter, every winter. Those ponds haven't frozen enough for skating in 20 years.

That says something.

One thing I never have understood is why the States haven´t signed up to the Kyoto Protocol. Al Gore was here at Sevilla a couple weeks ago, recruiting people for the "message". (Why this guy got a Nobel prize for this is beyond me, I´m sure many others have fought for the cause for much longer without a video and without the Gore last name, but oh well)
A couple days ago I watched a documentary at one of these science TV channels, about how the chinese have been replanting-reforresting the north east territory as apparently the Gobi desert is invading hundreds of miles year by year, it even is getting close to Beijing they say. Well these guys have been fighting the issue ever since 1978. Not that I am a commy, but it sure makes you think of who really fights this damn excess of garbage we all are throwing.
