They did some pretty bad shit under Bush, above the law, above the constitution and without precedence. Now they are banding together to ensure what they did goes unpunished. Fuck them.

BTW, now that this is coming up in congress, I see the relevance in the argument. This is how it's going to have to be played out and I believe Obama can beat them at it.

Senate Republicans are now privately threatening to derail the confirmation of key Obama administration nominees for top legal positions by linking the votes to suppressing critical torture memos from the Bush era. A reliable Justice Department source advises me that Senate Republicans are planning to “go nuclear” over the nominations of Dawn Johnsen as chief of the Office of Legal Counsel in the Department of Justice and Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh as State Department legal counsel if the torture documents are made public. The source says these threats are the principal reason for the Obama administration’s abrupt pullback last week from a commitment to release some of the documents. A Republican Senate source confirms the strategy. It now appears that Republicans are seeking an Obama commitment to safeguard the Bush administration’s darkest secrets in exchange for letting these nominations go forward.

i'd really like to see them try (to hold up more of his appointments - as if they weren't holding a bunch up already)...

because i think that'll backfire on them - just like everything else they are trying against him. they must really be pulling their hair out! i was reading another article about the infighting in the gop - it's getting worse. they are fucked and nobody agrees on what to do about it.

the gop is working VERY hard to earn their "party of no!" nickname - and the more they try to bad mouth obama the more they seem to distance themselves from the american people.

i see 8 out of 10 polled say obama's trip has been a success in cnn's opinion research pool.
