Jobless rate falls for first time in year - Republicans angry

    Jobs picture brightens - Aug. 7, 2009
Employers cut far fewer jobs from payrolls in July, the government says. The unemployment rate fell to 9.4 percent from 9.5 percent in June, the first decline since April of 2008. The Labor Department reported a net loss of 247,000 jobs in July, the fewest job losses since August 2008. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a loss of 325,000, CNNMoney reports.

Republican reactions now that it hasn't gone above 10%

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Republicans react to jobless report - Blogs from CNN.com
"Today's unemployment report is yet another reminder that more spending, taxing, and borrowing does not mean more jobs for the American people. Instead of rewriting history on their 'stimulus' promises, Washington Democrats should abandon their job-killing agenda," said Boehner in a release. "Rather than pushing an increasingly unpopular government takeover of health care that will increase costs, drive up the deficit, raise taxes, and destroy jobs, Democratic leaders would be well-served to work with Republicans on real reforms that expand Americans' access to affordable health care and help small businesses create more jobs."

All Republican bullshit aside, the unemployment rate could still climb to 10% or more but most certainly despite the stimulus, not because of it. Dead Elephants are notorious for historical ignorance and revisionism. Herbert Hoover, the GOP President elected in 1928 chose to sit on his hands in the wake of the stock market crash of the following year, and not surprisingly, the Great Depression worsened for the rest of his term, bottoming out in early 1933. The problem with most wealthy Republicans, businessmen and pols alike is that their business ethics are situational while their answers to the economic disasters that their favorite brand of unbridled capitalism creates remain fixed rigidly in the Milton Friedman mode, with an almost spiritual dimension that's completely assinine. It's not just the 2008 elections that rendered their party irrelevant other than their usual role as political lap dog of certain big businesses and the Rabid Right, it's the unfolding economic outcome of the policies they've advocated for the last thirty years that has made the Dead Elephant Party the proverbial Emperor without clothes.

    absolutely!

which brings up another topic. approval numbers.

i see the media now appears to be delighting in comparing obama's 200 day rating to bush's.

they fail to point out that bush inherited a large surplus and stable economy and nation at peace - and that obama was saddled with a massive deficit, an economy on the verge of COMPLETE COLLAPSE, two hot wars and by virtue of the color of his skin - a pending race war.

    hardly a fair comparison!

Not fair at all, but we all know on one level that slipping approval numbers, inevitable as they are represent an easy five second story with a perfectly contrived "analyisis" provided by a media which is owned by big business, the cherished right wing "liberal" media myth not withstanding. CNN is the worst offender in this category, possibly worse than Fixed Noise since they make no pretense of where their bias lies and "the most trusted name in news" still struts around in objectivity drag. Last night, I watched about two minutes of the "CNN Report Card." What an absolute fucking joke, the whole thing was a cross between a game show and American Idol, all based around the premise of "How's Obama Doin'?" It would be hilarious if the contribution it made to the dumbing down factor wasn't so shamelessly obvious.

    ya got that right!

CNN IS the worst, in my opinion also, because they present themselves as unbiased, but clearly have become a whore to the gop and corporate interests. (unlike FOX, CNN says they're fair and unbiased with a straight face!)

and i couldn't bring myself to watch that report - because i knew what it was going to be. after all, like more and more of their "programming", they developed it totally around an internal internet poll - and anybody with eyes can see the white wing is making a concerted effort to distort perception by flooding networks who'll accept it with their racist paranoid voices.

CNN, more than any other network is laying back and letting this part of the public do their programming. a few weeks ago john stewart suggested CNN's just gave up and quit being a REAL news outlet, and turned the network over to the loudest most uninformed voices on internet.

    and he's right.

It seems pretty obvious to me anyway that Bohner is going to make a bid for '012', no matter what results we see in the future he is going to be the standard bearer for repub "whiners".

    Thx

You're happy that more Americans lost jobs. I'll celebrate when unemployment is at 4%, meaning real unemployment is about 10%
