Thumbs up Lions Fire Millen

: Millen out as Detroit Lions president
1 hour, 44 minutes ago

. (AP)—Published reports say Matt Millen is out as Detroit Lions president.

Millen’s wife tells ESPN’s Chris Mortensen her husband is leaving the position. The move comes two days after Bill Ford Jr., son of the team owner, said he would fire him, but didn’t have the authority.

Messages seeking comment were left by The Associated Press on Wednesday for Millen, other team officials and players.

FoxSports.com was the first to report Millen’s departure.

The move comes more than seven years after the former linebacker and TV analyst took over one of the NFL’s most mediocre franchises and made it the worst.

Millen’s teams won a league-low 31 games since he took over in 2001.

Detroit is 0-3 this season, dropping Millen’s record to 31-84 overall.

It's about fucking time. I liked Millen as a player, but he has been the most incompetent executive I've ever seen.

About 3 years too late.

Don's got a point...this won't do much to improve the team in the short run.

Millen's hiring was a PR sap to a dreadful franchise. There was never any reason to believe he had the ability to fill the role. His only credentials were that he used to hit other players really hard.

SHADDUP AND QUIT TRYING TO RUIN MY DAY!!!!

See, everyone? Dreams DO come true!
By MJD
I wonder what it was like in Detroit when the news broke that Matt Millen was out as general manager of the Lions. Was it like the moon landing, where everyone gathered around a television to witness something special? Did they cancel school? Was there a motion passed in the state legislature to make September 24th an official holiday forever?

Nationally, a lot of the focus has turned immediately to things like, "I wonder who they'll hire now," and, "The Lions aren't out of this mess yet." But, people of Detroit, all that can wait. This is your day to celebrate. Grab someone you love, kiss them like it's the first time, and just bask in the glory of the day.

It's like Christmas in September. Just celebrate. There'll be plenty of time for paying the bills and sending the thank-you notes. At 0-3, it's a lost year anyway.

Just rejoice. Your football team has been liberated from Matt Millen's once-unbreakable chains of incompetence.

And if there's one thing the rest of us can learn here, it's this: If you cry, whine, and complain loud enough, you can make a difference. You don't have to be held hostage by a losing regime. You can fight back. Don't think for one second that all the marches, protests, and chants didn't make a difference in the end. Without them, this wouldn't have happened. You can make it happen for your downtrodden team, too. People of Oakland, mobilize!

One more note from Jay Glazer, who broke the news:

Millen was informed of the move Tuesday night during a late-night high-level meeting. Wednesday morning several people within the building confirmed that he had large packing boxes in his office and he made his way around to different employees telling them of the move.

It is unclear if Millen was fired or removed himself from the equation but the news comes just days after Bill Ford, Jr. publicly stated he would have fired the GM if it was his decision.

Well, whoever it was, be it Bill Ford, Jr., or some other hero, can you please step forward so that the people of Detroit can begin building the statue?

They were never that good before Millen...

I can't believe they haven't drafted a quarterback with all these high draft picks. Joey Harrington obviously wasn't going to work out in my honest opinion and they knew it 3 to 4 years ago.

They have good talent at their skill positions, and a "decent game manager" if you wanna call him that...

They weren't the worst team in the league before Millen though...

And yeah I wanted them to draft a quarterback so many times, but really not many have panned out. Last year I can understand them taking Calvin Johson, the dude's a freak of nature almost.

I'm certain they'll either take a quarterback in the next draft or pick up a proven one in free agency.

I'm pretty sure the interview for the next GM will go like this:

Boss: What will be your first priority?
Interview 1: Shore up the defense.
Boss: Get the hell out of here.

Boss: What will be your first priority?
Interview 2: Create better blocking schemes to help out the RBs.
Boss: Next!

Boss: What will be your first priority?
Interview 3: Scour the Arena league for a QB.
Boss: Good enough, you're hired!
