Marlins' series in Puerto Rico is off Three-game set against Mets to remain in South Florida JUPITER, Fla. -- All 81 Marlins home games in 2008 will be played at Dolphin Stadium after all. Plans to move a three-game series with the Mets from July 28-30 to Puerto Rico officially were quashed on Friday. Now, instead of facing the Mets in San Juan, the games will be played in South Florida. Until the matter was resolved, the Marlins withheld selling tickets for the late-July series. Now, those tickets will be on sale.

Perez wins arbitration case
Hearing was first for Mets since Cone's 16 years ago By Marty Noble / MLB.com PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Pitcher Oliver Perez won his salary arbitration case against the Mets on Friday and will be paid $6.5 million this year rather than the team's offer of $4,725,000. The left-hander went 15-10 with a 3.56 ERA last year, when he made $2,425,000. The decision was made by arbitrators Steven Wolf, Robert Bailey and Elizabeth Neumeier, who heard the case Thursday in St. Petersburg. On Thursday, Philadelphia first baseman Ryan Howard became the first player to win in arbitration this year when he was awarded $10 million instead of the team's figure of $7 million. Owners won six of the eight cases this year. Perez's case was his first and the Mets' 20th -- but their first since 1992, when the club lost its case against David Cone, marking the second time in three years Cone and his agent Steve Fehr had prevailed. In winning, Cone was awarded $4.25 million, $1.25 million more than the Mets had submitted for the hearing. Cone's salary was, until Friday, the highest awarded a Mets player in arbitration. The stakes were considerably higher on Thursday, as the Mets argued against Scott Boras, Perez's agent, even when adjusted for 20 years of real-world inflation. Perez, who earned $2.325 million last season, will now receive a raise that almost exceeds Cone's award in itself -- $4.175 million. The Mets have won 11 of the 20 cases in their history. Boras' clients have won 19 of 44 cases. Mets' arbitration cases Year Name Player Club Outcome 1979 Dale Murray $100,000 $72,000 club Joel Youngblood $91,000 $78,000 club 1983 Mookie Wilson $325,000 $215,000 player 1985 Doug Sisk $470,000 $275,000 club Jesse Orosco $850,000 $650,000 club 1986 Tim Teufel $350,000 $200,000 club Ron Darling $615,000 $440,000 club Wally Backman $425,000 $325,000 club Ed Lynch $530,000 $400,000 player 1987 Ron Darling $1,050,000 $800,000 player Kevin McReynolds $825,000 $625,000 club 1988 Dwight Gooden $1,650,000 $1,400,000 club 1989 Lenny Dykstra $575,000 $455,000 player Tim Teufel $590,000 $470,000 player 1990 David Cone $1,300,0000 $815,000 player Jeff Musselman $315,000 $220,000 player 1992 Jeff Innis $650,000 $355,000 club Kevin Elster $1,350,000 $760,000 club David Cone $4,250,000 $3,000,000 player 2008 Oliver Perez $6,700,000 $4,725,000 player Players won nine cases; the club won 11.

Reyes isn't even the fastest on the team, Chavez, Anderson, they all can fly. Gotay. Besides with the big bats, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Alou, manufacturing runs may not be aproblem. Still haven't answered my question about your enthusiasm.

I had pleant of limbs and made good catches, and if the pitcher threw just right I could bat that thing outta the park, but on run and throw my points were diplorable. On this issue of who has the speed to get onbase who would you rate as the quickest?" ![]() Roadrunner: "MEEP, MEEP!!"

You obviously haven't realized that the wind blows in during April and most of May and with the wind chill factor... Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Alou's going to what, play 80 games and hit ten dingers? Wright and Beltran will connect for their 30 or so, but not April in Chicago. April in Chicago is all small ball and pitching, pitching, pitching. If you get lucky the two quality starting pitchers you have will go back to back for that short series then there'll be a better chance I'll have to eat my words. |
