All in the name of advertisement, of course...
Rheingold!

My mom used to drink that until she switched to Piels Light because it was cheaper. She obviosly didn't have a very refined palate.

Oh...we've opened a can of worms now!

Sports Blog Steves: Kiner's Korner

The Mets broadcast team included Baseball Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, and folks (I am not kidding here) Kiner was usually pretty lit up by the third inning. His drunken butchery of the English language is legendary in the annuls of New York baseball folklore. When the Mets acquired catcher Gary Carter in 1985, Kiner consistently called him Gary Cooper, particularly in the later innings. Kiner once left Mets fans scratching their heads when he claimed that the Los Angles Dodgers played in the “Eastern Standard Pacific Coast League” time zone. On fathers day one season Kiner wished all the viewers “a happy birthday”. Another broadcast featured Kiner telling fans that the Hall of Fame ceremonies were scheduled for the 31st and 32nd of July

Kiner still comes on in New York broadcasts. Usually does the 5th inning. Great stories.

My favorite beer commercials were the ones for Shaefer. They were so blatant about drinking to excess.

{singing}

Shaefer is the, one beer to have when you're having more than one.

Shaefer pleasure, doesn't fade even when your thirst is done.

For years, I thought he was still drunk during broadcasts, but I realize he's very old. He just sounds drunk. As if his tongue is too big for his mouth.

He does still have the best stories, even if it takes several innings to finish one!

Take a ring, and add another ring, and then another ring...and you've got three rings....Ballantine

Schlitz is...Sam Adams actually went to them to use their brewery when they wanted to go large scale.

I was reading that Rheingold is trying to make another comeback.

Long ago, when Harry Carey did White Sox games, and shilled for Falstaff Beer, he was leaning out of the booth with a fishing net, going after a foul. He had to be hauled back in by the broadcast team, or he would have fallen.

He use to sound drunk, because of the large amounts of beer he drank.
