Great game...Pierce was a scary incident.
I turned to tivo for a while, and when I came back, Celts were up, and Pierce was back.... They're going to have to keep up the intensity, though. I hear ya about MJ, but I never got an attitude about him...coming from a Knicks fan, that's pretty heavy! Jordan singlehandedly put the NBA on the map. I guess he gets protection the way Gretsky did in that sport that reminds me of curling. He did however, get away with carrying the ball all the time, and that little stop...push the opponent aside...and take the long jumper play. Still, he was a magnificent representative of the game. There may never be the same combination of intelligence, poise, and sports talent in the game again... Nowadays, we get "Practice? We talkin bout practice man...man, we talkin bout practice...practice"

Considering Celtics' abysmal road performance so far in the playoffs 2-7 and the Lakers undefeated at home, this series can easily go 3-2 in favor of the Lakers for Game 6 back in Boston...We'll see though.

B.V....You're probably right, considering L.A. gets the home cookin now.
However, Koby has been on a quest to prove that the Lakers are nothing without him. In one game (forgot which) he was invisible for 3/4 of the game, and then showed up to prove his prowess in the nick of time. So far, we have seen an illustration of what happens when a team oriented franchise, plays a one man show. If the Celts. can continue w/the tough D, and Allen can find the basket, we might not see a series that goes down to the wire.

Yea lakers have been great @ home but they lost both times there to the Celtics.........
W/ boston playing the way they are they are the only ones that can defeat them (defeat themselves).. Last night that was very evident........ Way up that late in the fourth & the let up. They relax... That is not something you can do in the NBA... Even if you are that good.... & they are that good........ They were able to get away w/ it in the reg season & against Atlanta.... & they barely got away w/ it last night..... Barely!!!!!!!!!!! That is not a mistake you can make against la or any team like them that is not willing to just roll over..... You must!!!!!!!!! I do mean you must, put that foot to their throat & not let up for a second. Not one!!!! That is & has been a weakness I have seen in Boston all along.... That confidence & talent has a down side....... A weakness...... One that PJax learned of long ago......... I fault the coaching as much if not more than the players...... Doc told them to stay focused, not let them back in the game, don't give them any confidence etc. etc.etc. blah blah blah...... he should have been yelling &* screaming @ them like he does the damn officials........... Doing whatever it takes, including pointing fingers & naming names, to get them to wake the fuck up & play w/out mercy........ That killer instinct is not part of KG IMO & not much more in Ray Allen either... Peirce seems to have a bit but he is to laxed most of the time........ Fortunately they have a few others they can rely on that got the ballZ & experience they can fall back on........ They are going to need it down in la........ I think they are going to be beaten down & blown out @ least once down there....... It will be good so they can see how it is done..........

I see the "let up" you speak of, in the sense that when they get up big, they run down the court and throw up a quick (ill advised) shot, instead of continuing to work the ball around.
Their d stays tight, but we both know the next game will find a few Boston players in foul trouble early....good ol home cookin. Koby is going to need help, and if he gets it, LA will be tough to beat. They say the series doesn't start until someone loses at home, so this next few days will prove to be interesting. Allen cannot go back to being stone cold from the perimeter...

Bill, what do you think about this;
Disgraced NBA referee alleges conspiracy on 2002 Lakers-Kings series Tim Donaghy, in court filing ahead of his sentencing hearing on betting scandal, says officials sought to assure a Game 7 in the Western Conference finals. By Mike Bresnahan and Jonathan Abrams | Los Angeles Times Staff Writers June 11, 2008 Disgraced NBA official Tim Donaghy told the FBI that referees conspired to assure a seventh game in a 2002 playoff series -- the only such situation was the Western Conference finals between the Lakers and Sacramento Kings -- according to court documents filed in Brooklyn today. Sacramento led that series, 3-2, before the Lakers won Games 6 and 7 to advance to the NBA Finals, in which they swept the New Jersey Nets in four games for their third consecutive title. In Game 6 of the Lakers-Sacramento series, Kings big men Vlade Divac and Scot Pollard fouled out trying to guard Shaquille O'Neal and the Lakers shot 40 free throws to 25 for Sacramento. The court filings were made in connection with Donaghy's sentencing hearing by attorney John F. Lauro in trying to explain how the former NBA referee cooperated with the FBI after he was caught in a betting scandal that cost him his job. Donaghy also alleges other manipulations by officials, some of them prompted by demands he says were made by league officials to protect star players. The NBA responded with this from Richard Buchanan, NBA executive vice president and general counsel: "According to Mr. Donaghy, all of his allegations have previously been made to the FBI and the U.S. attorney, and they are clearly being disclosed now as part of his desperate attempt to lighten the sentence that will be imposed for his criminal conduct. "The NBA remains vigilant in protecting the integrity of our game and has fully cooperated with the government at every stage of its investigation. The only criminal activity uncovered is Mr. Donaghy's." Lakers Coach Phil Jackson, when asked about the allegations before tonight's Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Staples Center, said, "Was that after the fifth game, after we had the game stolen away from us after a bad call out of bounds and gave the ball back to Sacramento and they made a three-point shot? "There's a lot of things going on in these games and they're suspicious, but I don't want to throw it back to there." The coach was then asked whether he would accept the notion that there were officials who were NBA company men arranging things for the sake of ratings. "Only us basketball coaches think that," Jackson said, smiling. "Nobody else can go to that extreme. They referee what they see in front of them. "You know, a lot of things have happened in the course of the Tim Donaghy disposition. I think we have to weigh it as it comes out, and we all think that probably referees should be under a separate entity than the NBA entirely. I mean, that's what we'd like to see probably in the NBA. It would just be separate and apart from it. But I don't think that's going to happen. That's just a want and desire in the area of having everything apart from the NBA that can be apart from the NBA. It's just how small government goes. "But when it's controlled from that position, we've got the commissioner come on the air last year and make a statement that it's going to be looked into, that there's going to be full disclosure, we have an open area. I think these things are going to be discussed for a little while longer. And at this time I'd just as soon limit it and say let's wait until it all comes out and we'll talk about it afterward." Pollard, now a reserve for the Boston Celtics, said before tonight's game that he recalled thinking, "We have no chance. They're not letting us play," during the 2002 Game 6. If it were proved that the game was fixed, he said, "That would hurt the league, it would hurt my feelings, it would hurt everybody. That's ugly. You don't want that to be true. "I don't want it to be found out that that was true. I would much rather live with human error than human interference." |
