He's under contract. It would be stupid football sense to release him, he might go to an in-division rival. Also sets a precedence of disgruntled players retiring just to get released.

I hope they stick him on the bench for the year, but at that kinda of dough I'm looking for an eleventh hour trade to the Vikes. They are an in-division team, but you get some draft picks, better cap considerations (I think), and you don't give him time to learn the Vikes playbook.

Aware of that.

Aware of that. And, wouldn't this also be an argument to let him start at least another year? If GB fears a division rival getting him, seems to me he must still have what it takes. Otherwise, what's the threat?

I'm interested as to why you didn't mention this first...

Bottom line, and from a sports standpoint: Does this help the Green Bay Packers win a Super Bowl? What gives the Green Bay Packers the best chance to win a Super Bowl, having Favre on the bench, or on the field?

Probably their best move if they're not going to keep him. But if I'm Green Bay, I'm just letting Favre play another year.

Good points. Couldn't agree more.

But my overall complaint is the press vilifying Favre and making Green Bay look like they're being picked on. Again, picture the Raiders doing the same thing. Contrast the press's support for Green Bay in all of this with the shitstorm of criticism Al Davis would get. I know the press had Al Davis's back during the Russell holdout...but come on. That's a rookie QB, who a lot of the press felt Brady Quinn was better than...for whatever reason. Had Al Davis done to Rich Gannon what GB is doing to Favre right now, Al Davis would get killed by the press.

I think the media is villifying him because they're tired of this drama-queen, most 'fell' for this 'retirement' to begin with, and Favre is wrong and unblinkingly steadfast in his refusal to see it.

I've also heard about rumblings from the Packer Nation underground that many in the organization think the team would've been better and would've gone to the SB with A-Ro (I call firsties on the name).

So there is a contingent in the Packer office that feel the position is upgraded both short and long-term without Brett. He's an expensive back-up unless A-Ro fails miserably, injury, or an 11th hour trade happens. If the season begins with him on the bench, I don't think his ego allows that and he quits for good.

Media...tired of a drama queen?

Do you hear yourself?

Maybe you're tired of a drama queen, but the media will never be tired of this story. If they were, they wouldn't report on it.

But they are reporting on it, because they know it's news. And after the fact, they're making it clear that Green Bay is the good guy and Favre is the bad guy, for whatever reason. Again, picture Al Davis and Rich Gannon going through the same thing a few years back. Try and imagine the press taking Davis's side over Gannon's.

Wrong, as in morally wrong? Give me a break. He's hurting nobody. All Green Bay has to do is cut him. Or trade him. Or start him. Or bench him. Not one single person on this planet is being hurt by what Favre is doing, not even Aaron Rogers. Favre is better than Rogers and even Rogers knows that. It's Green Bay that's hurting Rogers by not being honest with him. They're telling this poor kid he's better than Favre.

You've heard rumblings from the Packer Nation underground? I see thousands of Green Bay fans protesting with their Favre jerseys on. Just how many people are in this "underground"? Are we even in the double digits?

Sure...which is why they've been refusing to let him go...

Green Bay's fault. No one else's.

In context of the question that was asked, yes. The question is why are the sports reporters taking the Packer's side. These same media, ex-football players, went loud and proud believing he was retiring. Now they're pissed because they don't look like the insiders that they portray and need to be to retain their exalted status. So yeah, they're tired of his drama queen BS, doesn't mean they won't report it as the NFL fans can't get enough and reporting everything is their business.

Really? I didn't realize that Gannon had retired, the Raider's had his hopeful replacement, and Gannon pulled a start-of-camp un-retirement parade.

Oh yeah, he didn't.

He's hurting nobody? They draft extra QBs to fill the roster, tell Rodgers that it's his time finally (after going thru this the last two years- Rodgers isn't a stop-gap, he's the real deal replacement hopeful), and at the last second Favre renegs and that doesn't hurt anybody? How about the fact that once you retire and then demand to be released gives precedence for every disgruntled vet playing?

There's a whole passle of folks saying that Rodgers is as good if not better than Favre is currently. I don't goto practices and I'm not getting paid butt-loads of money, so I'll have to take their evaluation since that's what they get paid for.

Honestly, they were 'this' close to going to the SB, if they thought it was because of Favre wouldn't they bring him back and fuck the consequences? Sure they would, and they didn't which should tell you something about Favre's diminished abilities.

Really? Cause I saw a couple of dozen of supporters at the first meet, and watched the second get cancelled due to lack of GB fans support of Brett.

Yeah, okay. Whatever you say. I say its an eleventh hour trade and Brett will suck wherever he goes.

Screw what the Packer 'insiders' are saying, Rodgers looked like crap during the televised scrimmage.

Just an aside, I've been posting about how badly Brett handled this as well as posting reports I'd heard from the organization as well as the camps.

If I owned the team he would've been in uniform 10 minutes after unretiring. One play away from going to the SB against a team that spanked the Pats and won. Better/worse young/old doesn't matter, you don't f' with intangibles like that.

I still say he's Vikings bound.

Not too much of an outpouring at his 'rally'. Cancelled the second one due to lack of G.A.S. Noticed that there weren't alot of 4s or support signs at the scrimmage.

No, he'll go to the Vikes, Rodgers will have a first-year year and the Packers management will be loathed.
Or
He stays and saves the day. Or they've got a so-so replacement and a has been and they can start again. Young team and all.

The only thing we need to make a run for the Bowl is a QB. If he comes to the Vikes and we win? I predict mass suicides and a possible attempt on the mans life responsible for giving Favre to the Vikes.
